What About the Children? The UK Ponders Age Ratings for Music Videos

The UK is one of the great nanny states.  All levels of government seem to have unbridled enthusiasm when to comes to protecting Britons from themselves.

The latest push comes from an advisor to Prime Minister David Cameron.  Reg Baily, the head of the Mothers’ Union (mothers are unionized in the UK?), says that music videos need to be classified for raunchiness just like movies are.

He singled out the videos of Lily Allen.  From the Daily Mail:

“I would say that Lily Allen sticks out as one who sings very catchy singalong songs which a lot of parents hear their children singing along to and then realise quite what she’s singing about and the sort of language she’s using.”
