What’s New in the World of Streaming Music Services? Glad You Asked…

Item 1:  How big has streaming become? Of all the revenue generated by US labels in Q1, a full 10% came from streaming–and that’s just Spotify.

Item 2: Spotify is a monster. Out of all the revenue generated by streaming, 49% was by Spotify.

Item 3: Rdio is about to launch a paid tier that costs $3.99 a month. It’s better than the freemium offering but not as powerful as their full-fledged monthly $9.99 subscription. This means they’re going after the middle ground.

Item 4: Streaming did Universal Music Group a lot of favours in Q1. These numbers are pretty healthy.

Item 5: Here’s another opinion on Tidal: It’s going to fail.
