What’s wrong with Coachella? No sellout, some tickets selling below face value

Once upon a time, Coachella was the desert rock festival that sold out so fast that the decision was eventually made to stretch things out over two weekends. And lo, it was good. For a while, anyway.

Now, Coachella is a mishmash of acts from different genres and decidedly moving away from rock a little more each year. It has also lost its celebrity/influencer shine. For the second year in a row, promoters are having a hard time selling out. Money is tight and there isn’t a lot of enthusiasm about this year’s line.

With an event like this, resellers/scalpers scoop up tickets when they go on sale in hopes of cashing in on demand. This year, not so much. According to Digital Music News, some tickets and weekend passes are available for less than face value. Oh, they’re still expensive at US$274, but GA tickets are normally US$649.

Everyone–promoters and scalpers alike–are hoping that last minute additions of Weezer and Ed Sheeran will boost things. Headliners are Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott.
