When it comes to wearing out vinyl, all turntables are not the same. Check out this test.

Unlike a digital file or a CD, a vinyl record will eventually wear out after it’s played a lot. This shouldn’t come as a surprise given that to play a record, you have to drag a tiny diamond-tipped stylus through grooves made of plastic. Add in friction and the centrifugal stresses from the tonearm and after a while, things will wear down.

Cheap turntables wear out records faster. More expensive units (and better styli/cartridges) allow records to last longer. Here is a look at three different turntables and their effect on vinyl wear. (Via Rick J)
