Where are things with the Canadian sales battle between CDs and vinyl this week?

I’ll spare you the suspense. Vinyl is kicking the CD’s ass here in Canada. And barring any kind of miraculous comeback, vinyl will outsell CDs in 2025. The question is by how much? Here’s where things stand this week according to Luminate.’

  • CDs sold in Canada last week: 32,004 (up 4.8% from last week)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada last week: 34,048 (up 9.4% from a week ago)
  • CDs sold in Canada so far this year: 324,643 (up 1.9% from a year ago)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada so far this year: 360,077 (up 17.8% from this point in 2024)

Streaming numbers:

  • Songs streamed last week: 2,841,053,272 (up 1.6% from last week)
  • Songs streamed in Canada so far this year: 30,624, 817,722 (up 6.0% from a year ago)
