Where are we this week in the Canadian battle between CDs and vinyl?

With just a couple of weekly reports to go, the CD will remain the most popular physical music format in Canada–at least if we’re talking about new product. New vinyl is snapping at its heels but if you add in used records–used LPs, record shows, and online sales that don’t show up in these figures–vinyl is probably number one.

Here’s the latest courtesy Luminate.

  • Total CDs sold in Canada last week: 67,174 (up 6.4% from a week earlier+
  • Total vinyl LPs sold in Canada last week: 85,404 (down 2.2%, which is pretty modest considering that last week’s figures included sales from the Black Friday edition of Record Store Day)
  • CDs sold in all of Canada this year so far: 1,665,623
  • LPs sold in Canada this year: 1,573,175

Here are the streaming stats:

  • Total songs streamed in Canada last week: 2,907,729,280 (up 1.3% from a week earlier)
  • Streams so far this year: 136,830,683,294 (up 9.6% from a year ago)
