Who will find Marty McFly’s Gibson ES-345 from Back to the Future? A worldwide search is on.

In the original Back to the Future, Marty McFly helps bring his future mother and father together at the Under the Sea high school dance as he sits in with the band playing a cherry red Gibson ES-345. It’s one of Michael J. Fox’s best scenes, especially when he alters the future by introducing rock guitar to Marvin Berry who promptly phones his cousin Chuck and–well, you know the story.

This story is about that guitar. It’s been missing for 40 years.

This is a real search. Gibson is looking for tips as to the current whereabouts of the guitar and are making a documentary about it. Called Lost to the Future, the company says “music fans worldwide have the chance to help Gibson find the most important guitar in cinema history.”

If you have any information, you’re asked to call or text 1-855-345-1955. Details can be found here. Watch this video for more.
