Why is a 34-year-old Nirvana song back on the charts?

“Sliver” was a pre-Nevermind non-album single when it was released on Sub Pop on September 1, 1990. Because Nirvana was a complete unknown commodity at the time, it was only noticed by those who were really plugged into the American indie scene. It really wasn’t until it showed up on the post-Nevermind compilation album Incesticide that everyone started to get into the song.

In 2021, it was re-released on 7-inch silver vinyl by a label called Jackpot Records, but that edition was limited to just 1,000 copies. Only the diehards were able to snap that up. Even so, Discogs lists copies for sale for around $25.

Now, though, the song is on a couple of UK charts. It’s #39 on the Vinyl Singles chart and #53 on the Official Physical Singles chart. This once again shows how weird record charts are these days.
