Will the 2022 Grammys be canceled? Maybe. Probably.

Actually, I’d bet on it.

The Recording Academy, faced with an explosion of Omicron cases, is seriously thinking of canceling–well, postponing–the Grammy Awards, which are set for January 31. This feels exactly like last year when the Grammys were also scheduled for January 31 but moved them back until March 14 because of COVID.

The event is supposed to be at Crypto.com Arena (the new name of the Stapes Centre) to the LA Convention Centre, which was better for social distancing. They may have to do exactly the same thing this year.

There’s more to the Grammys than the TV ceremony, too. The MusiCares Gala, the Pre-Grammy Gala, and innumerable smaller parties are also connected to the ceremonies. And the Recording Academy is keen to have a full house because the Grammys are a major, major source of revenue for them.
