Will the Next Lorde Be from Canada? Check Out Montreal’s Hayley Richman

The rocketship ride of 16 (now 17) year-old Lorde and her song “Royals” has many A&R wondering where they can find a teenaged younge woman who is wise and weary beyond her years.

Is Hayley Richman of Montreal what they’re looking for?

When this 14 year-old with the Fiona Apple looks opens her mouth…wow!  Sample everything she’s done (mostly covers) at her YouTube channel.

And check out the material she choses to sing.  Radiohead.  Muse.  Massive Attack.  Nine Inch Nails.  This isn’t what you’d expect from a 14 year-old to sing, right? She’s receiving guidance from her father (who apparently has some peripheral connection to Men Without Hats)–and he’s obviously a very good teacher.

A 14 year-old who can sing Portishead’s “Glory Box” like this?  Seriously?

If she sounds like this now, what will she be like in a couple of years with some careful development? The mind boggles.
