William Shatner gets animated for a single from his new blues album

William Shatner’s recording career goes back to 1968. Since then he’s (a) mashed up popular songs and Shakespearean dialogue, (b) had an alt-rock radio hit with a cover of Pulp’s “Common People,” (c) a rock covers album, (d) a prog record, (e) a country album, and (f) a Christmas album.

At 89, the Shat isn’t done yet. His latest project is a record full of blues (and blues-ish) covers. The Blues features Shatner doing his thing along with Albert Lee, Steve Cropper, Ritchie Blackmore, Sonny Landreth, Brad Paisley, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, and Pat Travers.

The first single is his take on Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You.”
