Woody Guthrie once wrote a song about how awful it was to live in one of Fred Trump’s buildings

Fred Trump, father of The Donald, made a fortune in New York real estate. Much has been documented about how awful a landlord he was, including how he made it very, very difficult for people of colour to rent in his buildings. The man was a racist.

Woody Guthrie, the legendary folk singer, lived in one of these buildings. He even wrote a song about it called “Trump Made a Tramp Out of Me.”

Mister Trump made a tramp out of me;
Mister Trump has made a tramp out of me;
Paid him alla my bonds and savin’s
To move into his Beach Haven;
Yes, Trump has made a tramp out of me.
