These are the World’s Most Popular Workout Songs

I get beat up by a personal trainer twice a week and also attend an hour-long circuit class on Saturday morning that leaves me thisclose to a heart attack. Naturally, there’s music playing all the time–and sometimes there are arguments about what should be played.

Like many gyms, all our music is sourced through Spotify, which means that Spotify has excellent data on what songs people use for workouts.

  • The most popular workout playlist for around Earth–and there are more than 25 million of them–is called “Dance Workout,” followed by “Workout Twerkout,” “Latin Dance Cardio” and “Throwback Workout.” Another one called “Beast Mode” is in there somewhere.
  • The top countries using workout playlists? Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Australia and Canada.
  • The top cities for workout music on Spotify? Olso, Miami, Washington and London.
  • Workout playlists were used most between January 1 and February 14 as people tried to follow through on New Year’s resolutions.
  • The peak day for working out playlists? January 24.
  • Here are two lists featuring the most popular workout songs from 2017.
