You can now buy pieces of the Fyre Festival on eBay

It looks like–hopefully! thankfully!–that Billy McFarland has given up on the idea of staging a Fyre Festival. The business model doesn’t work. The baggage he carries too great. The public distrust too insurmountable. So what can he do? Sell the whole lot.

McFarland put the festival’s entire intellectual property up for sale on eBay. “Today [July 8] I am taking the most famous festival brand, Fyre Festival, and putting it up for auction on eBay starting at one cent.”

Here’s the listing:

“Since 2017, Fyre Festival has dominated global headlines, generating over 32 billion online impressions — more than any other US festival brand. Now, the Fyre brand is for sale — a rare opportunity to acquire a globally recognized media engine with unmatched viral equity.”

The IP includes the festival’s social media accounts, its brand name, email lists, “artists relationships” (whatever that’s worth), and a Caribbean festival location option. (Honduras?)

McFarland claimed that a “seven-figure deal” had recently fallen through, so this was his next option. You have until July 15 to put in your bid. The last time I checked, the highest bid was US$200,500.
