You Could Buy This Car-Sized Boombox for $5,200, But I Wouldn’t

Years ago, CFNY/The Edge had a massive mobile studio for remote broadcasts that looked like a giant 80s-style boombox.  I spent many, many hours in that cramped, cantankerous thing.  I hated it.

So did the people who had to maintain it (it leaked and the electonics often broke down) and the people who had to tow it from location to location (it weighed several tons and was a bitch to park).

Around the same time I was spending time in the CFNY Boombox, a similar motorized vehicle was making its debut at Burning Man.  Built in 1987 on the chassis of a Dodge van, you could drive this thing from place to place–including Burning Man.  I’m sure it never overheated.

The Rockbox (how 80s!) is now up for sale for $5,200–which is a lot for a 25 year-old Dodge. More at the AV Club.
