If You’re Going to a Gord Downie Concert This Month, Please Wear Something Orange

Although the Man Machine Poem tour is finished, Hip fans continue to do amazing things and raise funds. Rob Ferreira sent us an update about what is currently happening in the Hip fandom and what he and the folks behind courageforgord.org have in store for us.

Hipcon plans are going well and beginning to take shape. In the meantime, the group is planning fundraiser events similar to those that took place during the summer, ahead of the Man Machine Poem tour. This time the events take place before Gord Downie’s concerts in Ottawa (October 18) and Toronto (October 21). In Toronto, the group booked Niagara musician Anthony Botting opening for Kingston indie rock band Kasador. Check out the Facebook Event page here for more information.

Additionally, in support of Orange Shirt Day, the group encourages anyone attending Gord Downie’s concerts to wear their version of an orange shirt for #chaniewenjack and the story of Secret Path. Ferreira says it is the group’s goal to fill Roy Thompson Hall with orange. It is their plan to show solidarity and help raise awareness for the Gord Downie Secret Path Fund for Truth and Reconciliation. They want the Hip frontman to know that they have both heard his call for support and take what they learn to the masses.
