YouTube: Still a monster

Remember when critics slammed Google for buying YouTube back in 2006 for US$1.65 billion? “It’s a money pit! It’s a legal quagmire! It will NEVER be profitable! YOU’RE IDIOTS!”

Well, they were wrong.

The Pew Research Centre has issued another report on the social media research of Americans and found that 81%(!!!) of the public use YouTube. Facebook is in second sport with a usage rate of 69%.

Things rank like this:

  • YouTube, 81%
  • Facebook, 69%
  • Instagram, 40%
  • Pinterest, 31%
  • LinkedIn, 28%
  • Snapchat, 25%
  • Twitter, 23%
  • WhatsApp, 23%
  • TikTok, 21%

However, if we look at people 18-29, the big winners are:

  • Instagram, 71%
  • Snapchat, 65%
  • TikTok, 48%
