‘Zine Culture Returns in the Form of Static

Before everything went online, fans used to created their own magazines–fanzines–that eventually developed into a culture all its own.  Some of these DIY cut’n’paste’n’photocopy publications–most notably Punk and Sniffin’ Glue–were integral to the development of punk rock back in the 70s.

A trio of friends in Toronto are trying to bring back classic ‘zine culture wtih Static, which celebrates culture and art in the city.  Issues come out when they’re ready and are limited to about 700 copies which are distributed through local indie record stores.

Meanwhile, they do have a website.  But doesn’t everyone these days?  How else could they distribute those free mixtapes?
