More Than a Quarter of Smartphone Users Listened to Music on Their Devices in April

Audio4cast has the latest stats from April.  Of US listeners with mobile subscriptions, 25.8% listened to music from their phones, up 1.3% from the first quarter of 2012.  And when they say “listened to music,” they not only mean MP3s but streaming music services.

This behaviour is only going to increase month after month.  Samsung recently purchased a music streaming service because they know that their customers want music through their phones.  SiriusXM is revamping their streaming apps.

Meanwhile US radio lobbyists are pushing for mandatory FM chips in portable devices because they know traditional over-the-air broadcasts will be squeezed by mobile listening.  But is a question of too little too late?
