Another Music Prize, This Time for Record Store Day

In just a few years, Record Store Day has gone from a tiny local thing to a worldwide event encompassing hundreds and hundreds of independent record stores.  I love it.

To build things up even further, organizers have launched the Adapter Prize, which is loosely based on Canada’s Polaris Music Prize and the Mecury Prize in the UK.

There are four categories with nominees and winners to be chosen by record store staff and their customers.

-Record of the Year (new release)

-Record of the Year (reissue)

-Record Store Day Release of the Year (chosen from all the product created just for Record Store Day)

-Breakout of the Year.
