That Bloody Ice Cream Truck Music Might Soon Be a Thing of the Past

My home office overlooks a park with two junior soccer pitches which means my neighbourhood is overrun with tykes playing let’s-not-keep-score games.  It also means that every year from late April until sometime in September, I can’t get this tune out of my head.

The ice cream dude is ALWAYS going up and down my street, especially on busy soccer days.  And as much as I want to jam spikes in my ears, I feel bad for the poor bastard driving the truck.  Imagine what his dreams must be like.

Technology, however, may soon provide some respite.  What if that music was replaced by text messages?  From Digital trends:

Detailed by The Local, residents of the Swedish town of Eslov have complained so much about the loud music playing on the speaker of the local ice cream truck that the ice cream company plans to silence the jingles in favor of silent text messages. Residents filed an official complaint about the music due to an increase in volume during the winter months. According to Engelholm ice-cream president Carl Gustaf Gudmundsson, the driver increased the volume in order to attract more kids and adults out of the home since most are inside staying warm.
