Deezer now allows users to remix songs (but only in France).

Deezer, the Paris-based streamer, has just revealed Remix Lab. Fans can now remix songs on the platform. And don’t worry. All the agreements with artists and rightsholders are in place, so it’s totally cool and legal. The one catch is that the feature is only available in France.

It sounds cool, though. Artists and rightsholders get all the royalties from the remixes. There’s no AI involved; it’s an in-app tool that allows users to manipulate stems from eligible songs. And although it’s not all songs (the biggest name involved is Celine Dion), but it’s early days.

Deezer says: “In just a few clicks, users can reimagine and rediscover a track they already know and love, by applying either simple effects such as increasing the speed or adding reverb, or more elaborate transformations such as changes to musical genre and style.”

There are competitions for best remixes, too.
