Hollerado, Hawksley Workman to headline Sound of Music Festival

Just in: Hollerado will be one of this year’s headliners at the Sound of Music Festival in Burlington.

The band is wrapping up and calling it a career with a pair of sold-out shows at the Danforth in December, but they promised a handful of gigs between now and then. Headlining the weekend-long Sound of Music Festival is a great way to see a bunch of fans all at once while enjoying a lovely summer weekend.

We’ve already learned that the festival’s kick-off party on June 8 will feature a whopper of a show from Bush, Live, Monster Truck, the Headstones, Crown Lands, Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion and the Castor Troys.

If that wasn’t enough to get your rock heart pumping, the FREE concerts are sure to kick it into overdrive.

In addition to Hollerado, the free shows – FREE, one more time for the folks in the back – at Spencer Smith Park and in downtown Burlington will include performances from Grandson, Hawksley Workman, David Wilcox, Bedouin Soundclash, Dear Rouge, Cowboy Junkies, Skydiggers, Terri Clark, Lonestar, Madeline Merlo, Freedom Train and others. The full lineup is available here.

All the fun takes place June 13-16, just in time for Father’s Day weekend.

“I’m so excited to see so many incredible new initiatives happening this year! We’re proud to be focused heavily on community and inclusiveness. What better way to bring together an entire community than with Canada’s largest free music festival,” said Myles Rusak, the festival’s executive director. “We’re so proud to be delivering some of the best talent from our area, as well as some incredible national and international headliners. There’s something for everyone this year, and we can’t wait for June.”

The shows are just part of the fun, of course. The festival also has musical education workshops for kiddos, the downtown streetfest, a family zone, the Grande Festival Parade complete with marching bands, vendors, a carnival with so many rides and a silver festival for the slightly older set.

All kinds of information on travel, where to stay, what to see, how to get around and how to get tickets for everything is available here. Start the summer right in Burlington!
