I Like This: The Lay Awakes (Great backstory behind this band, too!)

Good backstory with this band. Patrick Anderson and Anna Paddock are a Canadian husband-and-wife singer-songwriter duo now living in Brooklyn. When he’s not making music with his wife, Patrick is working on his reputation as the best wheelchair basketball player on the planet. As a member of Canada’s National Wheelchair Basketball team, he’s considered to be one of the greatest to ever play the game. He has world championships and multiple Paralympic gold medals to prove it, too. He was hit by a drunk driver when he was nine and lost both legs below the knee.)

Anna is no stranger to athletics, either. She’s a mean volleyball player who was offered a pro contract in Germany but turned it down so she could follow her music dreams. Meanwhile, her father is John Paddock, a veteran of three NHL teams and a former coach of the Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators, and Philadelphia Flyers. He’s now the coach and GM of the Regina Pats of the WHL.

Back to the Lay Awakes:  They have an album entitled Home Away from Home due May 4. If you’re into rootsy/folky/singer-songwriter material, check out this single and video from the record.
