Leading up to the Super Bowl, there’s no avoiding Taylor Swift news. Let’s just surrender to it and the wild numbers and conspiracy theories.
Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelcie is the biggest story in pop culture right now. Their canoodling has brought tremendous attention and hundreds of millions of fresh dollars to the NFL and the TV networks covering the games. Here’s some of the news coverage.
Tay-Tay hasn’t been show on camera during games as much as you might think:
Someone had a stopwatch on during these games.
- December 24: Chiefs/Raiders: Three camera shots for a total of 14 seconds of screentime during the game.
- December 31: Chiefs/Bengals: Three shots, 12 seconds
- January 13: Chiefs/Dolphins – Five shots, one minute and 16 seconds.
- January 21: Chiefs/Bills – Five shots, 24 seconds
- January 28: Chiefs/Ravens – Four shots, 32 seconds
- Average Tay-Tay screen time during an NFL game? About 25 seconds.
Right-wingers are losing their mind, calling her popularity “idolatry” and “sin.”
But your devotion to the Orange Man is okay? Meanwhile, Trump is all huffy saying privately “I’m more popular than she is!” Remember when “TDS” stood for “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and not “Taylor Derangement Syndrome?”
Conspiracy whackos thinks this is all a liberal plot.
Here’s my favourite: The Super Bowl has been rigged. The theory goes like this.
- The Taylor Swift/Travis Kelcie relationship is fake, created by the league (and probably the White House).
- Tay-Tay will show up at the game, make a surprise haltime performance and before the world endorse Joe Biden. That will influence the Presidential election, caused Trump to lose and resulting in a devastating civil war that will tear the country apart. No, really.
- Meanwhile, the Biden team would LOVE an endorsement.
Airlines are having fun with new flight numbers for the extra planes that will be to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.
- American Airlines Kansas City (MCI) to Las Vegas (LAS): Flight AA15 (Patrick Mahones’ number)
- American Airlines MCI to LAS, Flight AA1989 (Taylor’s album title)
- American Airlines MCI to LAS AA1521 (Patrick Mahones and teammate Mike Edwards)
- American Airlines MCI to LAS, AA87 (Travis Kelce, of course).
- United Airlines MCI to LAS, UA1989
- United Airlines MCI to LAS, UA1587 (Mahones and Kelce)
Meanwhile, out of San Francsico, we have
- UA1995 (1995 was when the 49ers last won the Super Bowl)
- US1849 (The original *rush*). I don’t know what that means
