Never got to see U2 at The Sphere in Las Vegas? This is probably the next best thing.

U2 was the first act to play The Sphere in Las Vegas. They took up residence at the venue for a few months, performing 40 shows. While tens of thousands attended the gigs, there were millions more who couldn’t attend the spectacle. This is the next best thing.

Starting September 5, The Sphere will start screenings (is that the right word?) of V-U2: An Immersive Concert Film. Utilizing footage from Sphere residency, fans will have a chance to experience the whole thing, just minus the live band. It was directed by Morley Steinbergh (Mrs. Edge) and The Edge himself.

This will be the first production shot with Big Sky, The Sphere’s ultra-high-res camera system. The visuals will be projected on a 160,000 square ft screen complete with HOLOPLOT surround sound, and seats that vibrate with the music.

The Edge says “The goal was to give the immersive movie goers as close to the live U2:UV concert experience as possible — and then some. I’ve never seen a U2 show. I’m so relieved I caught a great one.

He adds, “I finally get to see a U2 show.”

Here’s a trailer.
