Now that Taylor Swift has left Toronto…
Well, that was a wild two weeks, wasn’t it? Toronto was clogged with Swifties attending six shows this month, buying up tickets on the secondary market for thousands and thousands of dollars, spending thousands and thousands of dollars on hotel rooms, and dropping tons of cash on restaurants, taxis, rideshares, shopping, and more.
But after all the hype and anticipation, it’s over. Now what?
Time to tally up the numbers.
A number of Toronto businesses saw sales spikes. According to Moneris (they’re the debit system people) overall spending in Toronto was up 57% from normal. The guess is that the tour resulted in $152 million in direct spending and $282 million overall. Question: Will this impact holiday shopping?
If you’re a Swiftie, you may be “down bad.”
The CBC has this report about why you, as a Swiftie, might feel kinda…empty now. It’s post-concert sadness.
A good question: Why should we take the phenomenon of Taylor Swift seriously?
That was the question behind this Toronto Star article. I also wrote something about it for GlobalNews.ca.
Some friendship bracelets are going to space.
Yes, that space.
And a final bit of gossip.
Oooo. There’s a WAG scandal involving the Buffalo Bills.
