Ongoing History Daily: Another look at the origins of band names

It’s time again to investigate where bands got their names.

Three Doors Down came from a sign in Foley, Alabama, that read “Doors Down” but most of the letters were listening. Since there were three members in the band at the time, they decided to go with Three Doors Down.

Alexisonfire is derived from the name of a contortionist stripper named Alexis Fire, who almost sued the band over their name.

The Dropkick Murphys are named after John “Dropkick” Murphy, a wrestler who ran a rehab centre of alcoholics.

Yes, Fall Out Boy is named after Radioactive Man’s sidekick on The Simpsons.

And Linkin Park noticed that every town and city had a Lincoln Park, which gave the name a universal appeal. But because couldn’t afford to buy the internet domain for the correct spelling of “Lincoln,” they had to take some liberties for “LinkinPark.com.”
