Ongoing History Daily: Where did the name “Silversun Pickups” come from?

They were originally called A Couple of Couples because the line up consisted of two couples who were romantically linked. Then there was a lineup change, so that no longer worked.

They then went with Silversun Pickups after a liquor store in LA across from a lounge where A Couple of Couples used to perform a lot. A friend was in charge of late-night booze runs that were known as “Silversun pickups.”

One other thing: Bass player Nikki Monniger worked in the record industry in a previous life. Se worked with Warner, Epic, and Rhino. That must have been helpful when it came to negotiating those first record details in the early 2000s.
