Ongoing History: The Three Days Grace on-stage heart attack

Musicians live for the time they’re onstage in front of an audience. But what about those times when you gotta play a gig and you’re just not feeling well? I can’t imagine slogging through a set with a blinding migraine, a killer toothache, or some raging gastrointestinal issues. But the show must go on, right?

Barry Stock from Three Days Grace understands this very well. In 2013, the band was playing a festival show north of Detroit when Barry began to feel terrible, the worst heartburn he’d ever had in his life. A handful of Tums didn’t work, but Barry kept going through the last six songs of the set.

After the show, the pain hadn’t gotten any better, and he was finally convinced to get checked out at a hospital. Once he arrived, he was told, “Dude, you’re having a heart attack.”

Had the festival not been close to a heart specialist hospital, he might have been a goner. After that, Barry stopped smoking and cleaned up his lifestyle. One scare was enough.
