RIP J. Geils of The J. Geils Band

Anyone from Boston will tell you that there were few live bands better than The J.Geils Band. Although they were best known for their 80s hits “Centerfold,” “Freeze-Frame” and “Love Stinks,” they managed to place 17 songs on the Billboard Top 40 chart.

Frontman Peter Wolf may have got all the attention (he also was married to Faye Dunaway for a while), this was John Warren Geils, Jr.’s band from the moment he started it in 1967.

Reports say that Geils was found dead at his home in Groton, Massachusetts. He was 71.
