RIP Sass Jordan. She was 63.

We lost another one this weekend. Sass Jordan, the Canadian singer who had a ton of hits from the late 80s through to the mid-90s has died at the age of 63. It was cancer.

Sass was born in Birmingham, England (her actual first name was Sarah(), but was raised in Montreal. She wona JUNO for Most Promising Female Artist for this song in 1988. It was her very first single.

Along with her solo work, she scored big when she dueted with Joe Cocker on a song entitled “Trust in Me” for The Bodyguard soundtrack, a record that sold somewhere north of 45 million copies. That remained an excellent payday for her for the rest of her life.

She continued to record solo material through the 90s and 2000s, taking a bit of a detour to be a judge on for all six seasons of Canadian Idol staring in 2003 During that time, she hired a 22-year-old drummer for her band named Taylor Hawkins. He’d later join Dave Grohl in the Foo Fighters.

Sass also branched off into the world of spirits and wine with her own whisky (Rebel Moon Whisky) and Kick Ass Sass Wine.

Sass kept working up until last month when she suddenly canceled a string of dates. On October 2, the cancer she’d been quietly fighting for some time finally took her.
