Taylor Swift is apparently the most common job supervisor for home improvement projects

Since most of us have been home for most of the past year (or should’ve been…), tons of people have taken on home improvement projects. Or maybe just caught up on chores that have been on the to-do list for ages.

Thanks to Spotify tracking user data and drooling over it to learn every possible thing there is to learn about its subscribers, we now have an idea of the songs most often added to home improvement-themed playlists.

Thanks to Spotify’s troves of deeply personal data on listening habits and its ability to track every keystroke provided to the streaming overlord, Roofing Megastore analyzed more than 70,000 songs used on playlists for things like painting, decorating, plumbing and furniture packing.

Among the top selections on playlists:

“Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, even before it was a TikTok career-maker, was the single most-featured song on playlists.

Taylor Swift was the most popular artist overall.

On playlists that were titled with references to “painting,” the song “Pretty Girl” by Clario ranked tops.

For those who were working with pipes and fixing plumbing, the song of choice was…”Down Under” by Men At Work. (Who said humour is dead?)

Gardeners or those trying to cultivate their green thumb really enjoyed getting dirty with Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl.

“Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer helped people stay calm while assembling furniture.

Those who were doing general home improvement work most often looked to The Boss and “Dancing in the Dark.”

The top three most commonly added artists were Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Tame Impala; the rest of the top 10 includes The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Mac Miller, Harry Styles, Arctic Monkeys, Hozier and Post Malone.

Here’s the top 10 list of the most listened to songs:

1. Dreams (2004 Remaster) – Fleetwood Mac (added 48 times to different home improvement playlists

2. The Less I Know the Better – Tame Impala (45)
