Weekly survey: What’s your view on face tattoos?

Face tattoos have become a big thing in recent years. It’s mostly a thing in the hip-hop community, but not exclusively. Travis Barker of blink-182 rocks a couple as does Brian and Fieldy from Korn, Kerry King of Slayer, and Jacob from Papa Roach? But is this a good idea?

It’s an interesting lifestyle choice, especially if you to lengths we’ve seen with Tekashi 6ix9ine. How’s that gonna work for you when you’re in your 50s? Maybe it will. Or maybe it’ll just look ridiculous, worse than a saggy tramp stamp.

But again, what you do with your body is up to you. You might even want to go as far as this guy who went for the total body modification procedure on his way to transforming himself into an alien. The dude had his nose removed. But different strokes, I guess.

So what’s your view on the current trend towards face tattoos?

  • I remember the thrill of hearing Van Halen’s first album when it was released. I played it for a month. Then, I started listening to the new Aerosmith album and listened to that for a month. Flash forward several decades later and I enjoy listening to them on occasion. I guess what I’m trying to say is why tie yourself down to one look? One look for the rest of your life. Life is long. People change. I committed to my wife when I married her. We divorced after 8 years. I don’t see how people commit to something like a face tattoo. I have to assume that the one thing people have noticed about themselves during their teen years is that with every day, you want to get a reaction out of people. You must have an identity issue of some type? What I also don’t understand are the huge earlobe inserts that people go for. After a while, would you not sort of get tired of the look, even if it’s like 3 years down the road. Then, you’ve got huge earlobes with huge holes. I don’t think people think long term for these extreme looks.

  • The only thing worse than this that I know of , is people getting eye tattoos. You really have to be obsessive to want to do that to yourself. Not only that medical professionals are totally against it due to the possibility of permanent eye damage. Weird.

  • As you say, each their own. If done tastefully and minimalist I like it, if it’s the whole face, my opinion is it is distracting and unattractive, but who am I to judge?
