So What Will Apple Call the New iPhone? Nope. Not That.

Come a week from Tuesday, the lights will go down in the Steve Jobs Auditorium in the new Apple campus (if it’s finished in time, that is) and we’ll finally get a look at the new iPhone. We’ll also learn what Apple is going to call it.

There have been plenty of rumours ranging from iPhone 8 (the most common) to iPhone Pro to iPhone Edition. The real answer might be “all of the above.”

According to Tom’s Guide (via 9to5Mac) Apple is changing up everything. Instead of the expected sequential-assisted nomenclature of iPhone 7, iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and iPhone 8, we’re apparently going to get iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone Editon.

Let’s break that down. If these rumours are true, iPhone 8 will actually be a 7 with some minor upgrades.  Same thing with iPhone 8 Plus: an upgraded version of last year’s iPhone 7 Plus. At the top of the line will be iPhone Edition, which will a super-premium offering featuring all new hardware.

Actually, this makes sense from a model point of view. Too bad about not using iPhone Pro, though. My money was on that.
