YouTube videos not working or embedding for you today? Join the club. UPDATED!

Saturday evening (January 15), reports started popping up about YouTube videos disappearing from websites. What used to be a happily embedded video was replaced by a message that reads “This live event is no longer available.” That’s weird, given that these videos weren’t live events at all. And that the videos were working perfectly a few hours earlier. Suddenly, many were all broken.

For example, I tried to embed the new Muse video, “Won’t Back Down,” on one of my websites and up popped the message. Same thing for three more music videos.

Here’s what’s being discussed right now.

Not everyone has had this problem. Mobile browsers seemed to work with most of the issues cropping up with Firefox and Chrome. My issues appeared with Chrome on a PC.

There are workarounds, but that’s unacceptable, of course. I’ll keep checking throughout the day.

UPDATE: Things are now working for me. You?

  • I’m having the same problem. Interestingly the playback of the live video is working properly when I view it in Safari, but not in chrome.
