So It’s Almost Time for Kate Bush’s Big Comeback Concerts–And I’ve Been Offered a Ticket.

Kate Bush is about to perform a full concert again.  The last time she did that, the compact disc was still three years away from being introduced. And we were years and years away from all owning cell phones with cameras.

When the lights go down Tuesday night at the Eventim Apollo in London for a month-long residency, she’s hoping that people will put down their phones and not take any pictures.

I hope people listen.  This is a bucket list show for thousands of Kate Bush fans that will be professionally shot for later release.  Why not be in the moment for as long as it lasts?

Meanwhile, I’ve been offered an opportunity to go to the October 1 gig.  The catch is: (a) I have to get to London and airfare is not cheap (Air Canada to LHR is around THREE THOUSAND while Air Transat to LGW is a much more reasonable $870-ish; (b) the pound-CAD exchange rate is not very nice; and (c) the ticket I’ve been offered is one of the VIP variety. And I have to pay for it, of course: £433.  That’s $785 CAD.

Mind you, it’s a pretty special ticket.  In addition to some primo seats for the concert includes a special pre-show thing at the church across the street.

The church is opposite the Eventim Apollo; if you were to stand at the Apollo’s front door looking out it is ahead of you to the left, under the flyover.Doors will open at 5.30pm and we request that you arrive at the church no later than 7pm in order to maximise your gourmet experience.

Everyone will be required to leave the church by 7.30pm in order to be seated in the Eventim Apollo for the start of the concert at 7.45pm.

What’s Included
Included in the package are top price premium seats within the stalls or circle, a summer picnic hamper of gourmet food and wine, and a souvenir programme

On Arrival
Please have your ticket ready as you may be asked to present this, along with ID in the name the ticket was booked under.

Please be aware that if you do not have your ticket, you will not be allowed entry to the church or to the concert.

If you wish to sit next to others you know who have tickets then please arrive together as guests will be seated in the order in which they arrive. The Church does have a foyer for you to meet up in before entering the dining area.

The Fabulous Picnic Hamper
On arrival you will be given a glass of sparkling wine and shown to your seat.

The hamper will include a range of sumptuous food including a trio of starters, roast Pouisson, a selection of salads, tantalising desserts and cheese selection. If you would like more information on the contents of the hamper, please send your request to the email address below.

There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to request one of these options via the email address below.

Please note that there are no cloakroom or storage facilities at the church.

Drinks
Each hamper comes with a half bottle of wine, plus still and sparkling water will be provided to the table. You will be offered the choice of red, white or rose. There is the option of beer and soft drinks if you would prefer, simply inform your waiting staff.

There will be a cash bar should you wish to purchase additional drinks.

Sweet, but very, very expensive.  Add everything up–airfare, ground transportation, hotel, food and the price of the ticket–and we’re well north of $2K.  And that’s the best case scenario.

Still, it’s Kate f**kin’ Bush.  And this October 1 show is the last gig on the residency and after this show, she’ll probably never, ever play live again.  Is this worth selling a kidney?

Meanwhile, all of Britain has gone gaga over these shows.  FIVE of Kate’s albums are now in the British Top 1oo. And the BBC just ran this documentary. (Thanks to the Lonely Vagabond for point it out.)

  • Just get all your nutrition through careful pint selection (porters have more calories). That was about the one thing I found to be cheaper in London than Toronto.

  • Six months from now, what will you value more? An experience of a lifetime, or $2000?

  • 1. It’s a never-to-be-repeated opportunity to see, hello, Kate Bush!
    2. Pretty sure it’s a business tax deduction for you, given your line of work.

      • You can always make more money; you can never make Kate play live again…….. Just sayin. (I’d be all over that in a heartbeat, she’s been on my bucket list for a very long time.)

  • What’s with all these people acting like $2,000. is a ton of money? Most people spend far more than that for a vacation. I sure Alan Cross can afford it.

  • I flew to London in 2008 for the Yazoo reunion at the same venue…I fretted over cost as well, but to this day I know I would’ve regretted it dearly if I didn’t go..and I bumped into Vince Clarke outside the pub next door to the Apollo !
