Pandora Uses Big Data Analysis to Predict the Big News Artists for 2016

The music industry isn’t like a regular business. There’s no way to predict what the public might like in the future with 100% certainly, so label executives have to rely on their gut and whatever market research they can afford. Now, though, they have another tool: Big Data.

Companies like Spotify collecting billions of data points on their streams: who’s listening, where they are, what they’re doing and for how long. You can observe what’s trending on YouTube. And you can monitor peer-to-peer networks to try to extrapolate where the public’s taste is heading.

Pandora, the Internet radio service which we don’t get in Canada, is also a collector of Big Data from which they’ve teased a Top 25 of artists that it thinks will be big in 2016. Here’s a chance to maybe get ahead of the herd. Further details here.
