Before there was Fifty Shades of Grey, EL James wrote fan fiction based on the characters in Twilight. Eww. That somehow got morphed into a trilogy of horribly-written, extreme misogynistic books that have sold somewhere north of fifty million copies and led to a Hollywood movie deal. Double eww.
Naturally, editors are now on the lookout for fan fiction that might be able to make the same leap. And to whom are some of these publishers looking? One Direction fans.
In fact. Simon&Schuster has just given a 25 year-old woman named Anna Todd, a “mid six-figure deal” for rights to her serialized novel which tells the story of a young woman’s erotic awakening courtesy of Harry Styles. She’s also signed with an agency to negotiate film and TV rights. The three-part serial will show up in stores just in time for Christmas.
Listen, if you want to read really good female-friendly erotic fiction, buy my wife’s book, St. Barts. It’s MUCH better. No contest, really.
