Geeks and Beats Podcast, Episode 145: iPhone XL

The iPhone X is (almost) here and you’ve come a long way, baby. We’ll speak to the senior editor of Motherboard Brian Merchant about his decade-long journey through the history of the world’s most ubiquitous smartphone chronicled in his fascinating book, The One Device. We’ll also learn a few dirty little secrets about the company Android users love to hate. And we’ll snub our noses at Apple’s unreleased HomePod by giving away a Roku Premiere+ media streamer. And it’s way cheaper than anything Apple or Android have to offer…

Michael and I also debate on whether it’s worth buying the iPhone X or if we should just save some money and go with the iPhone 8/8 Plus. My 6S is almost done, so I gotta do something, but I’m really, really having a hard time justifying shelling out the equivalent of a mortgage payment for a phone that will begin to depreciate the moment I crack open the shrinkwrap.

Early reviews claim this is the snarkiest episode we’ve ever done.
