How’s this for a punk supergroup? Billie Joe Armstrong, Travis Barker, Tim Armstrong, and CJ Ramone
Normally, you’d never think of going to a concert in a cemetery, but Hollywood Forever in Hollywood is a different sort of place. It embraces all sorts of events on its grounds, which are the final resting places to some pretty famous actors and musicians.
One of those clients is Johnny Ramone, who has a pretty spectacular monument. This is why Hollywood Forever will host a 50th anniversary tribute to The Ramones on August 30. Performing will be The Cretin Family, a punk supergroup consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Blink-182’s Travis Barker, Tim Armstrong of Rancid, and CJ Ramone, the band’s last bass player.
Billie Joe (who has a daughter named Ramona for obvious reasons) said, “The spirit of the Ramones is alive in every backyard punk show, punk club, and festival. Generation after generation of cretins and weirdos become Ramones lovers. Kids are influenced by the Ramones, and they don’t even know it yet. ¡Viva Ramones!”
John Travolta–yes, the anti-punk Saturday Night Fever guy–will be there to screen a couple of his films, including Carrie from 1976.
All proceeds will go to cancer research at the Ellison Institute Research Foundation.
If this doesn’t make Hollywood Forever the coolest cemetery in the world, I don’t know what could.
