If You’re a Canadian Singer-Songwriter, Read This Because It Could Mean $$$

I ran across this unadorned ad in Saturday’s National Post:

If you are a songwriter or publisher of a musical work or a record company, please read this notice as you may be eligible to receive private copying royalties.  These royalties are paid to music rights holders by SODRAC, CMRRA, SOCAN, SOPROQ and AVLA for private copying of music in Canada…

The Copyright Board of Canada has published regulations setting the timeframe for submissions of claims by unrepresented music rights holders.

In other words, a new deal has been struck for songwriters and publishers who are not currently members of those performing rights organizations.

If you unrepresented, go here to find out more about how you can submit claims for private copying royalties.

Hey, it’s worth a shot, right?
