k-os Released a New Mixtape
It’s been nearly six years since k-os released his first mixtape, The Anchorman Mixtape. Now, he’s just released his second, Views from the Stix. The multi-platinum hip-hop artist wrote the 15 songs at his family’s rural home north of Whitby, Ontario. He finished the project in just three weeks.
The 15 song track list features free-style verses recorded over demos that he made during his stay in the countryside. Each song averages around two minutes in length and he teamed up with a few well-known Toronto artists and Canadian producers. Collaborations include musicians Kardinal Offishall, Shad, and Saukrates, and producers include Kaytranda and Boi 1da.
Even though the title might seem like a play on Drake’s Views, k-os assures that his project is not a spoof. He stated: “There has always been this push and pull as to what is the more authentic hip hop viewpoint. Is it only going to be urban city life? Or can hip hop be authentic no matter where you live? To me, the stix is really just anywhere outside of that conventional city life”.
