New Music From The Inbox: In The Valley Below, Autopilot, Moving Units, The Fugitives & Lizzie Davis

By Juiliette Jagger

Artist: In The Valley Below “Peaches”
Album:
Peaches EP
This is a great track from LA based In The Valley Below. The duo combine sultry back and forth male female vocals with melodic synths, gritty guitars, and rumbling drums to turn out dark stories of romance and what’s left there after.

Sounds like: “Working on a feeling, breaking down the ceiling, digging up the deep end…freezing on the beaches, reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches.”

Artist: Autopilot “Last Play”
Album:
Diamond Rough
There is a sort of drowned sense of longing about “Last Play” that feels like life on the road across rural Canada, coupled with a vocal sourness that recalls Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell.

Sounds like:  “You’re every thought I couldn’t finish off…”

Artist: Moving Units “Bright Nights”
Album:
Neurotic Exotic
Deep bouncy dirty bass!

Sounds like:

“You’re as close to me as you’ll ever get, like a loaded gun or a cigarette…”

Artist: The Fugitives “Bigger Than Luck”
Album:
Bigger Than Luck EP
I like a folk band that brings a little power to a song – group vocal harmonies and a good solid drum beat thumping in the background.

Sounds like: “One more drink and I won’t make my rent, but the future is the only place where people repent.”

Artist: Lizzie Davis “Geography”
Album:
Latitudes
This one’s from Lizzie Davis’ sophomore album and at 19 years old, “Geography” has her sounding like an indie island Nora Jones.

Sounds like: “Don’t you remember when the sounds of our voices, they carried through the tin can telephone…”
