Ongoing History Daily: A bit of Green Day history

A couple of things about Green Day today.  First: how many members of Green Day have graduated from high school?  The answer is only one: bass player Mike Dirnt.

And check this out: he was born to a heroin-addicted mother who was in no shape to raise a child.  She gave him up for adoption to an interracial couple.  Dad was white and a computer programmer while mom was native American.  But then they divorced when Mike was just seven years old.  The only real stability in his life was his best friend, Billy Joe Armstrong.

They formed their first band together when they were fourteen.  The group was called “Sweet Children” for a while, but then they decided to go with “Green Day.”
