Prepping for the NFL season with the league’s biggest pump-you-up songs

For a couple of years, I was the music director for the Toronto Maple Leafs, selecting the music played before, during, and after home games. That gig plunged me into the world of major league sports game operations and took me to arenas across North America to study what music was used by other NHL teams. It was a cool job.

With the NFL season starting next Thursday, an online gambling site (OGUS) analyzed a series of playlists on Spotify and Tidal to find out which songs are biggest with the football crowd.

The number one most popular track? No surprise: “Thunderstruck” from AC/DC. Combined with “You Shook Me All Night Long,” AC/DC appears on 28 NFL team playlists. I’m a little surprised at how well “Bangarang” from Skrillex did.
