Controversy

So does Taylor sing live at her shows or not? Let’s investigate.

This is gonna get me in trouble with Switfies, but it’s too interesting not to give it some oxygen.

Many performers sing to tracks–that is, lip-sync–during concerts. Why? Several reasons.

  1. There’s lots of singing and dancing and jumping around. It’s really had to be pitch-perfect when you’re always out of breath.
  2. Fans expect the live performance of a song to sound EXACTLY like the recording.
  3. Some artists’ voices have degraded with age or declining health.
  4. Some just can’t sing live without some kind of artificial assistance. In-ear monitors offer artists the ability to use Auto-Tune pitch correction in real time. (I’ve stood at soundboards, watching the tech at work; it’s pretty amazing.)

So what about Taylor Swift? Big shows, big productions, big audiences, all expecting perfection night after night after night. Now here’s the question: Does she sing live? Let’s look at some evidence.
