Somalia Sees First Major Music Concert in 20 Years

Next to the term “failed state” in the dictionary is a map of Somalia.  The place has been a basket case for years thanks to civil war, pirates and al-Shebab, the fun-hating Islamists who once tried to ban music–ALL music–saying that it was un-Islamic.

No music on the radio.  No live performances.

But now that al-Shebab is out of Mogadishu, music has returned to the city.  This past week, Somalis were able to enjoy their first proper concert in two decades.
