The Eurovision finals are this weekend. Prepare for the usual weirdness.
The Euronvision Song Contest is the most batsh*t talent competition ever invented by humanity. This weekend, we get to experience it in all its glory once again.
This year’s finals will take place in Vienna tomorrow. Twenty-five countries will compete in this order. If you need the actual names of the performer and their songs (chances are that unless you’re a Eurovision superfan, you won’t recognize any of them), go here.

Yes, that’s a smaller field than usual because Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, the Netherlands, and Iceland are all boycotting the contest this year over Israel’s participation and the country’s ongoing actions in Gaza and elswhere.
According to bookies, the favourites going into the competition are:
- Finland: Linda Lampenius & Pete Parkkonen – “Liekinheitin” (Here’s why they’re favoured.)
- Greece: Akylas – “Ferto”
- Denmark: Søren Torpegaard Lund – “Før Vi Går Hjem”
- Australia: Delta Goodrem – “Eclipse”
- Israel: Noam Bettan – “Michelle”
If you want to watch–and I HIGHLY recommend it, especially after a few gummies–it will be streamed live on YouTube starting at 3pm EDT Saturday (May 16).
By the way, director Martin Green told the BBC that Canada is welcome to join Eurovision at any time. I say we do it.
