There’s a new docuseries on 80s hair metal coming to Paramount+. Here’s the trailer.

By the time the 90s began, hair metal was viewed as old, tired, and out of touch with what young people wanted to hear. Enter Gen X and the alt-rock revolution of 1991. By the end of the year, hair metal was essentially wiped out.

But given enough time, any musical genre will experience reevaluation, rehabilitation, and a resurgence. It’s largely nostalgia, but it’s also picked up by members of the current generation. Hey, it happened with disco. And this is what I see happening with hair metal these days.

Case in point: the new Paramount+ docuseries, Nothin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ’80s Hair Metal. Expect interviews with members of Poison, Ratt, Extreme, Skid Row, and more. It’ll debut in the US September 17 and September 18 in Canada and the rest of the world. (Read more here.)

Here’s a trailer.

  • For those unaware, it’s based on a book of the same name. And the book is fantastic!

It’s at Amazon. Nöthin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the ’80s Hard Rock Explosion by Tom Beaujour and Richard Beinstock.
